Elementary Counseling Services

Individual Counseling
HCS students may meet one-on-one with the school counselor to receive personalized support. Topics vary based on each child's needs and may include friendship skills, behavior, academics, changing families, anxiety, anger management, and grief and loss.

The school counselor determines whether a student would benefit from ongoing meetings or occasional check-ins. Teachers and families may request counseling services at any time by contacting the main office. Students may also speak to counseling staff directly. The school counselor can help connect students and families with community resources when additional support is needed.

Group Counseling
When available, students may participate in small counseling groups where skills are taught, and peer support is encouraged.

Students may be recommended for group counseling by parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, or the school counselor. Groups are offered based on student need and may include topics such as changing families, grief, and loss. Additional group topics may be added throughout the school year to meet the needs of our student population.

Classroom Lessons
Classroom lessons are provided multiple times per year in every grade level. These lessons are designed to support schoolwide goals and needs of individual classrooms. Instruction focuses on character education, academic skills, bully prevention, social skills, friendship, career exploration, and identifying and expressing feelings.
