Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Kara Cushing and I am a proud 3rd grade teacher at Heuvelton Central School. I graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 2006 and attended SUNY Potsdam upon graduation. I earned my degree in Childhood and Early Childhood Education in 2011. I loved it there so much I continued on and received my Masters in Literacy in 2012. I began my teaching career in 2012 at St. Lawrence Central Elementary where I taught for five years as a 3rd grade teacher. I am absolutely honored to “get back to my roots” and become a Bulldog again! You can feel the pride just walking down the hall.
I live in Ogdensburg with my husband, Frank, our 3 year old son, Graysen, and my 11 year old “bonus” daughter, Kristen. In my free time I love to read and escape into the wonderful worlds books provide for me.
As a teacher, I aim to create an atmosphere that encourages curiosity and sheer determination. Our classroom is a place where students feel important, respected, cared for and believed in. In our classroom, real world problems are solved, and each student believes that they can make a difference in this world. I strive to bring enthusiasm and creativity to my classroom to develop a love of learning and to create lifelong learners.
