In June of 2022, members of the Heuvelton District Safety Team discussed practices and features to promote the safety of staff and students at Heuvelton Central School District. One option that some of our neighboring school districts have chosen to implement is the addition of School Resource Officer/Deputy positions (SRO/D). The topic of implementing one of these positions in our district was brought to the Heuvelton Central School District Board of Education. The district is considering using a portion of federal funds that are specifically allocated for safety and security to fund an SRO position. In order to make a more informed decision, the Board has asked for additional information on costs, timing and the level of support from the school community.
As we plan for the upcoming school year, and in the spirit of the district’s commitment to engaging with our school community, we invite you to share your thoughts about a school resource officer (SRO) in the short survey below. This survey is meant to gather feedback on perceived safety within the district and the level of community support for a position such as this. All feedback will be shared with the Board to inform the decision-making process. Please note that the completion of this survey is for informational purposes only. The results of this survey will not be the sole factor in determining if an SRO/D position will be implemented in the district. Information collected from this survey will be used by the Superintendent and Board of Education to inform their recommendations on an SRO program moving forward.
